Travel Registered Nurse Med Surg Job
Hilo, HI
Contracted
Hilo Medical Center
Mid Level
Step into a rewarding path as a Travel Registered Nurse specializing in Med Surg, and bring compassionate, evidence-based care to patients in Hawaii’s own Hilo while embracing the adventure of variable assignments across diverse American settings. This assignment begins on 02/23/2026 (February 23, 2026) and runs for several weeks, offering a competitive weekly pay range of $1,846 to $1,900 and the opportunity to impact lives through skilled, patient-centered Med Surg care. Imagine delivering high-quality clinical outcomes in a vibrant island community where every shift is an opportunity to learn, lead, and grow while you explore the natural beauty and cultural richness of Hawaii. It’s more than a job—it's a chance to practice with purpose, stay connected to family and community, and expand your professional horizon in a setting that fosters resilience, empathy, and clinical excellence.
Working in Hilo situates you in a location renowned for its lush landscapes, warm aloha spirit, and a balance between serene natural beauty and modern healthcare delivery. You’ll experience a coastal, welcoming environment that supports teamwork, professional autonomy, and hands-on nursing that makes a difference at the bedside. Beyond the island’s beauty, the role provides the flexibility associated with travel nursing, including opportunities to rotate through different sites across the United States, broadening your clinical exposure and giving you firsthand insight into varied hospital cultures, patient populations, and care models. While Hilo offers its own unique pace and charm, the broader travel option enables you to immerse yourself in a spectrum of communities—from urban hospitals to community-based facilities—each contributing to your growth as a versatile Med Surg nurse.
In this Med Surg RN role, you’ll deliver core inpatient care across a range of medical-surgical services, from acute medical presentations to post-operative and complex medical cases. Your responsibilities include comprehensive patient assessments, continuous monitoring of vital signs and electrocardiographic rhythms, administration of medications and IV therapies, wound care, and wound vac management as needed. You’ll coordinate comprehensive discharge planning, patient and family education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to optimize pain management, mobility, nutrition, and safety. You’ll serve as a critical link between patients, families, and care teams, escalating concerns promptly and contributing to care plans that emphasize evidence-based practice, safety, and positive patient outcomes. The role also invites opportunities to grow into leadership or preceptorship positions, deepen specialty knowledge in areas such as post-surgical recovery, infection prevention, and clinical pathways, and expand your contributions to quality improvement initiatives.
This travel assignment comes with a package designed to support your success and well-being. In addition to your competitive weekly pay, you may be eligible for a signing or completion bonus, plus housing assistance to ease relocation and living arrangements while you’re away from home. We offer extension opportunities for ongoing assignments, allowing you to tailor your travel plan to your personal and professional goals. You’ll have access to a dedicated 24/7 travel support team that’s focused on your safety, logistics, and overall experience while you’re on assignment. Clear, proactive communication and a comprehensive support network ensure you’re never navigating a shift alone—from housing, shift changes, credential compliance, to accommodations for any unexpected needs. The combination of strong professional development, robust support, and a culture that values your contributions makes this role an ideal stepping stone in a Med Surg nursing career.
The company behind these opportunities is grounded in empowering its staff through ongoing education, mentorship, and a culture that prioritizes your career advancement and personal well-being. You’ll find a work environment that values curiosity, collaboration, and resilience, with managers and peers who celebrate your clinical judgment and patient advocacy. The focus is not only on filling beds but on investing in nurses who want to grow—whether that means taking on advanced telemetry, expanding critical care competencies during longer placements, or preparing for leadership responsibilities in the future.
