Travel Registered Nurse Observation Unit Job
Rochester, NY
Contracted
URMC Strong Memorial Hospital
Mid Level
Step into a pivotal role as a Registered Nurse in the Observation Unit in Rochester, New York, where each shift offers the chance to impact patient trajectories at a moment when decisive observation and rapid coordination can change outcomes. In this fast-paced, highly collaborative setting, your clinical judgment and compassionate leadership will guide patients through essential screening, monitoring, and disposition decisions. From the moment you greet a patient in observation to the moment they transition to the next phase of care, you’ll be at the heart of a nimble team that values accuracy, empathy, and teamwork. And while you dedicate yourself to excellence, you’ll also have the opportunity to experience the beauty and vitality of upstate New York—the Genesee River’s scenic drives, cultural festivals, and nearby outdoor escapes that make every shift feel meaningful.
Rochester blends a thriving medical community with a high quality of life. Urban amenities, affordable living, and a strong sense of community create an environment where you can excel professionally while enjoying local culture, parks, museums, and a dining scene that reflects the city’s diverse roots. For those seeking variety, this role also opens the door to assignments across the United States, allowing you to broaden your clinical scope, connect with new teams, and return with a richer perspective on care delivery and patient experience. The opportunity to rotate through different facilities in diverse settings can sharpen your assessment skills, deepen your understanding of discharge planning, and expand your professional network with colleagues who share your commitment to high-quality nursing care.
In the Observation Unit, your responsibilities will center on keeping a steady, comprehensive watch over patients who require short-term monitoring as they transition from acute care to discharge or transfer. You will perform continuous nursing assessments, neuro checks, vital sign surveillance, wound and IV management, pain control coordination, medication reconciliation, and timely escalation of concerns to the attending physician. You’ll collaborate closely with physicians, case managers, and ancillary staff to drive safe dispositions and efficient throughput, while documenting care in the electronic health record with precision and clarity. The role offers clear pathways for professional growth within the specialty—opportunities to develop expertise in acuity assessment, observation protocols, and care coordination, with access to certifications, on-site education, and mentorship from experienced leaders. Our program values bedside mentorship, structured orientations, and ongoing professional development that can lead to leadership roles within units, quality improvement initiatives, or education and training tracks for future educators. And you’ll benefit from a comprehensive package that recognizes your expertise: a competitive weekly pay range of 2,093 to 2,219, with bonus eligibility, housing assistance, and the flexibility to extend contracts to build continuity with teams you know and trust. The arrangement is designed for ambition, offering extension opportunities that reward reliability, performance, and the desire to deepen patient relationships. A dedicated 24/7 support team stands ready to assist you while you travel with the company, ensuring you have guidance, resources, and a steady point of contact whenever you need it. Start date is February 16, 2026, with several weeks of engagement to begin; beyond that initial period, you’ll have the chance to take on additional assignments that suit your professional goals and personal preferences.
At the core, we empower our nurses to grow—through fair scheduling, transparent communication, and a culture that places safety, compassion, and continuous improvement at the forefront. You’ll find a supportive environment that celebrates your contributions, recognizes your milestones, and provides the tools you need to advance your career, from specialty trainings to leadership development programs. We believe in partnership—with patients, families, and clinicians—and in creating a workplace where every nurse feels heard, valued, and inspired to excel. Our commitment to your wellbeing is paired with a clear path for advancement, empowering you to build a fulfilling career while delivering exceptional patient care.
