San Luis Obispo, CA

Adventist Health- Sierra Vista
Mid Level
Step into a life-changing journey as a traveling Registered Nurse specializing in Short Stay, where your clinical skill and compassionate care accelerate patient recovery in fast-paced hospital environments. In this role, your expertise will help patients transition from acute care to home quickly and safely, making a tangible difference for families navigating transitions. Imagine applying evidence-based protocols, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and mentoring other caregivers along the way. This is your opportunity to shape outcomes, elevate the standard of care, and bring comfort and clarity to patients during critical moments. In addition to the professional impact, you’ll discover a state that rewards curiosity and resilience, starting with the Central Coast’s inviting pace and San Luis Obispo’s sunlit days.
San Luis Obispo offers a remarkable blend of professional opportunity and natural beauty. Work in a community renowned for its walkable downtown, farm-to-table cuisine, and a coastline that invites exploration after shifts. The region’s climate supports an outdoor lifestyle year-round—from hiking in rugged hills to coastal strolls along pristine beaches. As you gain experience in Short Stay settings, you’ll also have the chance to broaden your horizons by working in various locations across the United States, expanding your clinical repertoire while enjoying the diverse cultures, landscapes, and patient populations our network serves. Whether you’re drawn to bustling urban centers, tranquil coastal towns, or scenic mountain communities, you’ll find experiences that enrich your career and your life, all while contributing to smoother patient journeys and safer discharges.
In this Short Stay traveling role, you’ll contribute across a range of responsibilities designed for rapid, high-quality care. Core duties include comprehensive patient assessments, timely administration of medications and IV therapies, and meticulous monitoring of vital signs to detect early signs of deterioration. You’ll lead discharge planning, collaborate with physicians and case managers, and provide thorough patient and family education to support post-hospital recovery at home. You’ll engage in care coordination that emphasizes safety, efficiency, and continuity, ensuring that short-term stays translate into durable wellness. You’ll have opportunities to refine and expand skills in wound care, infection prevention, and acute care protocols, while also contributing to unit education and best-practice sharing with the travel nursing community. Our program supports your professional growth through targeted onboarding, ongoing competencies, and access to clinical leadership pathways, including mentorship, rapid upskilling, and potential cross-specialty experiences that broaden your scope.
You’ll be supported every step of the way. Our compensation package recognizes your expertise with a competitive weekly pay range of $2,120 to $2,265, reflecting the value you bring to Short Stay medicine. In addition to pay, we offer housing assistance to ease transition, and opportunities to extend contracts for continuing assignments that fit your life and career goals. We understand travel nursing can be demanding, which is why you’ll have 24/7 support from our dedicated team to help with logistics, credentialing, and on-the-ground needs wherever your assignment takes you. While this program operates on flexible weekly contracts and does not guarantee hours, you’ll have the stability of frequent shifts, steady professional engagement, and the chance to optimize your schedule across placements. Start dates are clear and structured, with initial opportunities opening on February 23, 2026, for multi-week engagements that align with hospital needs and your availability. Please note that actual compensation packages and guaranteed hours will be confirmed during the hiring process and may vary by location and assignment.
