Travel Registered Nurse PACU Job

Hilo, HI
Contracted
Hilo Medical Center
Mid Level
Embark on a vital journey as a Registered Nurse in PACU, bringing your expertise to Hawaii’s Hilo coastal community beginning 03/30/2026 for a weeks‑long assignment designed to elevate patient recovery and your professional footprint. In the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, you’ll serve as a trusted guide for patients awakening from anesthesia—carefully monitoring airway, breathing, circulation, pain and nausea, and readiness for transfer to the next phase of recovery. Your calm, precise assessments and proactive interventions will help patients regain stability quickly and comfortably, while you collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and perioperative teams to optimize outcomes. This is more than a shift—it’s a chance to shape early recovery experiences, reduce anxiety for patients and families, and reinforce the standard of compassionate, evidence‑based care in a fast-paced surgical setting.

Location benefits extend beyond Hawaii’s stunning scenery. Hilo offers a vibrant community, lush landscapes, and a unique blend of volcanic coastline adventures, cultural richness, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere that supports a balanced, fulfilling lifestyle. On assignment, you’ll enjoy the advantages of living and practicing in a setting renowned for natural beauty and island hospitality, with opportunities to explore biosphere-rich parks, waterfalls, and regional cuisines. For those who crave variety, there is also the opportunity to work in various locations across the United States, expanding your clinical exposure and professional network while enjoying the flexibility and diversity that travel nursing provides. You can grow your repertoire—from different PACU workflows to collaborating with diverse surgical teams—while choosing assignments that align with your professional goals and personal interests.

Role specifics and benefits:
- Key responsibilities: Provide vigilant post‑anesthesia care, monitor vital signs, airway patency, oxygenation and hemodynamic stability, manage pain and nausea, prevent and respond to airway or respiratory complications, and facilitate safe transitions to step-down or inpatient units. Perform accurate documentation, adherence to safety protocols, and timely communication with the care team. Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR staff to tailor care plans, refine recovery trajectories, and advocate for patient comfort and safety at every moment.
- Professional growth: This PACU role offers avenues to deepen perioperative expertise, pursue specialty certifications, and assume increasing levels of responsibility within PACU and broader critical care pathways. You’ll be exposed to a wide range of surgical procedures, enabling you to refine rapid assessment, critical thinking, and patient education skills that enhance your leadership potential.
- Competitive benefits: In addition to a competitive compensation range, you’ll have access to a signing bonus, housing assistance to ease transition, and potential for contract extensions based on performance and unit needs. Flexible shift structures, travel stipends, and additional clinical education opportunities support your long‑term career trajectory. The arrangement emphasizes stability within the travel model, with ongoing opportunities to extend or relocate to new assignments as you wish.
- Comprehensive support: You’ll have 24/7 support from a dedicated travel nursing team and on‑the‑ground supervision to address any needs, issues, or adjustments during your assignment. This robust support network is designed to reduce administrative burden, enable seamless scheduling, and ensure you can focus on patient care with confidence.
