Role specifics and benefits
- Key responsibilities: Provide comprehensive hospice nursing care in patients’ homes or designated settings, aligning with the approved plan of care. Assess symptoms, manage pain, alleviate dyspnea, monitor for changes, and prevent avoidable complications. Administer medications under physician orders, adjust plans in collaboration with the medical team, and document all care promptly and accurately. Educate patients and families about disease progression, comfort measures, medication safety, and recognition of urgent changes. Coordinate with physicians, social workers, chaplains, and other care team members to maintain a holistic approach. Uphold infection control, safety standards, and ethical practice; advocate for patient preferences and cultural considerations. Contribute to care planning meetings and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring consistent, compassionate care across settings.
