Step into a pivotal role as a Registered Nurse in the PCU, where expert clinical judgment meets compassionate patient care in Utica, New York. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patients navigating complex conditions while expanding your proficiency in progressive care. In this assignment, you’ll blend technical skill with thoughtful communication, guiding patients and families through transitions with confidence. Beyond the bedside, imagine exploring New York’s scenic beauty—from the tranquil shores of nearby reservoirs to the Adirondack foothills and the historic streets of Utica—where culture, cuisine, and outdoor adventure enrich every day on the job. This role invites you to grow while contributing to a community of care that values excellence, empathy, and curiosity.
Location Benefits: Utica places you in a welcoming, affordable community with a robust healthcare network and easy access to larger hubs like Syracuse, Albany, and Ithaca for weekend escapes or professional growth opportunities. The assignment also opens the door to working in multiple locations across the United States, allowing you to experience diverse hospital cultures, patient populations, and clinical environments. You’ll gain exposure to varied PCU workflows, leadership styles, and evidence-based practices, all while enjoying the unique flavor of central New York—from farmer’s markets and local theater to outdoor recreation along the Erie Canal and nearby scenic parks. For travelers who crave discovery, the program offers the flexibility to rotate to different sites, building a broad portfolio of experiences while maintaining social and community support through our 24/7 traveler care team.
Role Specifics and Benefits: In PCU, you’ll provide high-quality observation, monitoring, and stabilization of patients transitioning from critical care to step-down services. Your day may include comprehensive assessments, accurate documentation, early recognition of deterioration, ordering and interpreting tests, medication administration, venous access, and short-term procedures within the scope of practice, always coordinated with the treating team. You’ll collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, case managers, and family members, ensuring safe handoffs on admission, transfer, and discharge. You’ll design and implement patient-centered care plans, adjust treatments as clinical status evolves, educate patients and families on disease processes, and advocate for timely discharge planning. The role supports ongoing professional growth, with opportunities to pursue certifications such as PCCN, watcher training, or specialty-related pathways, and to participate in unit-based quality improvement projects. The benefits package is designed to attract and retain top talent: a competitive weekly pay range of $2,226-$2,376, guaranteed hours of 36 per week, and the potential for contract extensions based on performance and facility needs. Additionally, enjoy housing assistance to ease relocation or temporary housing concerns, and the possibility of a sign-on or performance bonus to recognize your expertise and commitment. You’ll have the security of extended assignments with predictable schedules, plus the chance to renew or extend your contract to continue your journey with the agency.
