Burlington, VT
Contracted
University of Vermont Medical Center- UVMMC
Mid Level
Step into a pivotal role as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Burlington, Vermont, where clinical expertise and compassionate leadership converge to elevate patient outcomes. This contract opportunity invites you to influence recovery journeys, collaborate with a dedicated team, and deepen your PCU proficiency in a high-acuity setting that rewards initiative, precision, and empathy. Ready to begin December 29, 2025, this weeks-based assignment is crafted to align with your schedule while offering pathways to extension and broader experiences across our nationwide travel network. As you answer the call to care, you’ll also be welcomed into a state and region renowned for its understated beauty, where seasonal landscapes—from tranquil lake views on Lake Champlain to the backdrop of the Green Mountains—offer a refreshing balance to the demands of modern nursing. Vermont’s charm is not just in the scenery; it permeates everyday life, from farmers’ markets to vibrant eateries and a strong sense of community that supports professional growth and well-being.
Burlington itself blends small-town warmth with urban vitality, delivering an environment conducive to focused clinical work and personal enrichment. The city offers a walkable downtown, a welcoming waterfront, and easy access to outdoor recreation—from hiking and biking in pristine corridors to seasonal ice skating along the harbor. You’ll encounter a patient population that appreciates comprehensive, evidence-based care, while you benefit from Vermont’s renowned quality-of-life advantages, safe neighborhoods, excellent schools, and a health system that prioritizes staff development. For clinicians seeking broader horizons, the role also provides the opportunity to participate in assignments across various U.S. locations through our travel network, exposing you to diverse patient populations, hospital cultures, and operational nuances—each enriching your resume and expanding your professional toolkit. While you savor Burlington’s unique appeal, you’ll also have the chance to experience other regions that match your clinical interests and personal goals, all supported by our seamless relocation and onboarding processes. Please note the hours and pay rates listed are estimates and may vary; final compensation packages and guaranteed hours will be confirmed during the hiring process.
In the PCU, your daily responsibilities center on balancing the line between acute and routine care. You’ll monitor telemetry and vital signs, administer medications and IV therapies with meticulous accuracy, and perform patient assessments that guide timely clinical interventions. You’ll collaborate with physicians, case managers, and specialty teams to coordinate discharge planning, educate patients and families, and advocate for patient-centered care that respects cultural and individual preferences. The role offers ongoing professional growth: opportunities to deepen expertise in complex cardiopulmonary care, acute respiratory management, hemodynamic monitoring, and transitions of care, with the potential for leadership involvement as a preceptor or charge RN on advancing shifts. Our support network extends beyond the bedside—24/7 assistance from a dedicated team ensures you have clinical guidance, travel logistics, and personal wellness resources whenever you need them. In addition to competitive weekly compensation in the range of $2,251 to $2,468, the package can include a sign-on or completion bonus, housing assistance to ease relocation, and avenues for contract extensions that align with your long-term planning. The program is designed to reward your commitment with flexible scheduling, predictable workflows, and a culture that recognizes every nurse as a cornerstone of patient recovery and safety.
The organization’s values center on empowering its staff to pursue continuous improvement while maintaining a supportive, inclusive environment. You’ll find emphasis on professional advancement—formal mentorship, access to continuing education credits, and opportunities to broaden your scope within critical care pathways. The team prides itself on open communication, ethical practice, and a climate where feedback is welcomed and acted upon. You’ll be part of a community that celebrates clinical excellence and personal resilience, where your voice helps shape patient care standards and pathways for development. The combination of robust clinical exposure, collaborative leadership, and a clear roadmap for advancement underscores our commitment to your career—and to helping you thrive both inside the hospital and in your broader life in Vermont or the broader U.S. travel network.
If you’re ready to join a company that not only values your clinical skills but also prioritizes your growth, well-being, and mobility, we invite you to apply. This is your moment to expand your PCU expertise, experience Burlington’s unique culture, and contribute to a program that supports you every step of the way—from verified onboarding to 24/7 travel support, housing assistance, and meaningful extension opportunities that align with your professional goals.
