San Luis Obispo, CA
Contracted
Adventist Health- Sierra Vista
Mid Level
Embark on a dynamic travel nursing opportunity as a Registered Nurse in CVICU, where expert critical care skills meet high-stakes cardiovascular recovery. This role invites you to guide adults through complex post-operative and acute cardiac care, delivering precise hemodynamic monitoring, decisive interventions, and compassionate family communication. In this fast-paced environment, your expertise in arterial and central lines, vasoactive infusions, ventilator management, and rapid response will directly influence patient outcomes and journeys toward recovery. Envision yourself partnering with multidisciplinary teams to optimize hemodynamics, manage postoperative needs after CABG, valve repairs, and complex congenital cases, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, evidence-based practice, and patient-centered care. This opportunity is built for professionals who thrive in autonomy, continual learning, and collaboration, and who are eager to elevate their CVICU practice within a supportive, mission-driven organization. California’s Central Coast backdrop adds a enriching dimension to your professional impact, blending advanced clinical exposure with a work-life environment that celebrates balance, personal growth, and the rewards of serving a diverse patient population.

California offers a wealth of inspiration for your life outside the unit—sun-drenched coastlines, scenic vineyards, outdoor adventures, and a vibrant arts and dining scene. In particular, San Luis Obispo County presents a welcoming, community-oriented setting with temperate weather, nearby beaches, redwood forests, and opportunities to recharge after challenging shifts. This vacancy allows you to work in San Luis Obispo with the possibility of assignments at additional U.S. sites, expanding your clinical horizon while expanding your professional network across the country. The chance to experience different hospital cultures, patient demographics, and care models can sharpen your clinical judgment and broaden your national resume, all while maintaining your California home base when off rotation.

Location benefits start with San Luis Obispo’s appealing lifestyle: a relaxed, family-friendly community that emphasizes outdoor living, safe neighborhoods, and a robust local food scene. You’ll enjoy manageable commutes, access to coastal trails, mission-style charm, and a supportive medical community that values your expertise. Additionally, the ability to explore other locations across the United States during contract periods provides exposure to varied CVICU practices, technologies, and patient populations, enriching your skill set and career narrative. Expect comprehensive onboarding, orientation, and resource access that ensure you feel confident and connected from day one.

Role specifics and benefits:
- Responsibilities: provide expert care for adult CVICU patients, including continuous cardiac monitoring, vasoactive and inotropic infusions, mechanical ventilation support, sedation and analgesia management, complex wound and chest care, hemodynamic assessment, and rapid response to deterioration. Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, bedside nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and case managers to plan and execute individualized care plans. Conduct precise daily rounding, participate in family conferences, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Maintain meticulous documentation, ensure device function and safety checks, and support unit-based teaching for new staff and students.
- Professional growth: access diverse case mixes, expand proficiency with advanced hemodynamic devices, and pursue ongoing skill advancement in critical care paths. This setting supports professional development through mentorship, opportunity to earn CVICU certifications, and potential for rotation across related cardiac services. The experience strengthens leadership, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice in a high-acuity environment.
- Compensation and benefits: competitive weekly pay in the range of $2,339–$2,488, with the potential for shift differentials and opportunities for performance-based rewards. Housing assistance is available to ease transition, and contract extensions may be offered for top performers who align with patient needs and site readiness. Acknowledge that hours are not guaranteed; the schedule and hours will be determined by the assignment’s needs and the agency’s onboarding plan.
- Support and stability: you’ll receive robust 24/7 support from a dedicated travel team, including clinical and logistical assistance, travel coordination, and on-call guidance to help you navigate any challenges on the road. This comprehensive support ensures you feel supported whether you’re in a familiar city or exploring a new site.
