Hilo, HI

Hilo Medical Center
Mid Level
Step into a rewarding journey as a Travel Registered Nurse—Med Surg in Hawaii, Hilo, where your expertise in medical-surgical care meets the rhythm of island life. This is your opportunity to deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing to diverse patient populations while expanding your clinical horizons in a tropical paradise. The contract opens with a start date of 01/26/2026 and runs for several weeks, offering a competitive weekly salary range of $1,796 to $1,874. This role is designed for hands-on professionals who thrive in fast-paced med-surg environments and want to make a meaningful impact on patient recovery and family education. Embrace a setting that honors your skill, respects your autonomy, and supports your growth every step of the way.
Hilo, located on the beautiful Big Island of Hawaii, presents a unique blend of community warmth, accessible education, and island charm. Working here means engaging with a patient population that reflects a rich cultural tapestry and a broad range of acuity, from routine post-op care to complex medical conditions. You’ll experience a climate that inspires resilience and teamwork, a hospital environment that prioritizes safety and patient-centered care, and the chance to explore a destination renowned for its natural beauty. In addition to Hilo, your assignment may provide opportunities to work across locations in the U.S., expanding your clinical exposure and professional network while maintaining the supportive framework of a travel assignment. While you navigate the schedule and patient needs, you’ll have the chance to immerse yourself in island life—spontaneous weekend escapes to scenic beaches, waterfalls, and volcanic landscapes, and evenings steeped in local culture and cuisine. The combination of clinical challenge and scenic inspiration makes this a truly distinctive career chapter.
As a Med Surg RN, you’ll deliver comprehensive, patient-focused care on a dynamic med-surg floor. Your responsibilities will include thorough patient assessments, accurate documentation, IV therapy and electrolyte management, wound care and dressing changes, pain control and symptom management, and timely escalation of changes in condition. You’ll coordinate with physicians, allied health professionals, and case management to develop and execute effective care plans, participate in care transitions, and empower patients and families through education and self-management strategies. You’ll monitor and respond to changing acuity, participate in daily rounding, maintain safety standards, and advocate for evidence-based practices. This role offers opportunities for professional growth, including skill diversification, potential specialty certifications, leadership or charge roles as you demonstrate initiative and leadership within the team. You’ll benefit from competitive compensation, and the role includes a bonus program, housing assistance, and extension opportunities to tailor your experience to your career goals. You’ll work with a dedicated support structure—24/7 travel assistance, a responsive clinical support team, and on-site resources to help you navigate variations in assignments and patient needs. The arrangement is designed with flexibility in mind, recognizing that your schedule may evolve and that the right opportunities can come from ongoing contracts and extensions that align with your personal and professional plans.
Our company is committed to empowering your career every step of the way. We believe in a culture that prioritizes professional development, continuous learning, and a supportive work environment where your voice is heard and your expertise is valued. You’ll join a network that provides mentorship, access to ongoing education, and clear pathways for advancement as you demonstrate clinical excellence and leadership. The emphasis is on collaboration, respect, and a shared commitment to high-quality patient outcomes. You’ll be supported by a team that understands the realities of travel nursing, with resources to ease relocation, acclimatization, and integration into new clinical teams, ensuring you can focus on delivering outstanding patient care.
